Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata)
Brief description
Gilthead sea bream (Sparus aurata) is the only species of sea bream, which is currently farmed on a large scale. It is common throughout the Mediterranean sea and is also found along the Eastern Atlantic coasts, from the United Kingdom to the Canary Islands. Its Latin name comes from the characteristic golden band between its eyes. Sea bream is found in abundance marine waters as well as in the brackish waters of its habitats. Common size of sea bream is 20 cm at weight of 300-600 grams. In average, sea bream reach commercial size after one and a half years. It feeds on molluscs, crustaceans and small fish.
Most of sea bream comprising the world’s supply is raised through aquaculture. The EU is by far the biggest producer worldwide. In 2013 the total supply has exceeded 300 000 tonnes.Product form

Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is a sweetwater fish and is referred to Cichlidae family. It is widely cultivated in Chinese provinces Guangdong and Hainan. In 2012 total production of Tilapia has reached 1,6 million tonnes. Being a great protein source at reasonable price world market for Tilapia is expected to grow. Tilapia is an important export product in China.
