Imports of frozen mackerel, less compared to the previous year

In February 2020, frozen mackerel imports amounted to 2,288 tons, down 44 % from 4,088 tons a year earlier. The accumulated import volume came to about 7,392 tons in February, down 46 % from about 13,707 tons a year earlier. In the last six years (from 2015 to 2020) the average February import was about 3,809 tons, down about 40% from 2,288 tons in February this year. Frozen mackerel import countries were imported from two countries, Norway and China.

The 2020 Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global event, scheduled to take place April 21 to April 23 in Brussels, Belgium, has been postponed by the organizer, Diversified Communications. The global outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus caused the postponement, according to Diversified Communications Group Vice President Liz Plizga. “Postponing is inevitable and unavoidable because of public health concerns,” Plizga said. Diversified Communications is aiming to host the global trade show in Brussels at a later date in 2020, Plizga said.

Vinh Long expects to increase pangasius production

Vinh Long province, in Mekong Delta, expects the measures implemented to boost the pangasius farming industry sustainability make it possible to increase its farming area to 460 hectares this year and reach an output of 80 thousand tonnes. The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters & Producers (VASEP) highlights that in the last years the province has introduced many solutions to reorganize production in the direction of enhancing chain linkages and community management models such as GAP-certified manufacturing cooperatives.

Salmonella detected in frozen shrimp

The Ministry of Health (Minsal) confirmed having found salmonella in a batch of frozen Sea Quest shrimp. The bacterium was detected by the Institute of Public Health, within the framework of the National Microbiological Food Safety Surveillance Program, in a sample of frozen cooked shrimp sold in supermarkets of Unimarc chain. The product comes in a 200 gram bag and is of Chinese origin. The contaminated food is from batch 006, and its expiration date is March 11, 2018.
